Indian Ocean became a battlefield, tension increased due to sinking of Iranian warship; Sri Lanka made a shocking claim
Iris Dena Update: US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said that the US sank an Iranian warship with torpedoes near Sri Lanka on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, the Sri Lankan Navy reported that the IRIS Dena sank in the Indian Ocean. After the sinking of the frigate, about 150 people went missing and many sailors died. “An American submarine sank an Iranian warship that it thought was safe in international waters. Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo,” Hegseth told reporters.
‘First attack of its kind since WW2’
Calling the attack a “quiet death”, he said it was the first attack of its kind on an enemy since World War II. The Pentagon says that one of the main objectives of the US-Israeli war against Iran that started on Saturday is to destroy the country’s navy. A spokesperson said the Sri Lankan Navy had recovered “some bodies” of Iranian sailors in what crew members said was an explosion.
“We have found some bodies from the area where the ship sank,” local navy spokesperson Buddhika Sampath told reporters in Colombo. He also said that the search for others is going on.
Video released showing the reported US submarine attack on the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena off the coast of Sri Lanka, allegedly struck by a torpedo.
