Iran’s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei ready to talk with America: reports
Amidst the ongoing tension in West Asia, a new report has raised hopes for a possible diplomatic solution. Arab News, quoting the Israeli newspaper, has claimed that Iran’s new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei has agreed to talks and agreements with America. This is being seen as an important turning point in the long-running conflict between the two countries.
Talks between Araghchi and US mediator Steve Witkoff
According to the report, talks have taken place between Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and American mediator Steve Witkoff, which has also received the approval of Iran’s top leadership. However, earlier Tehran had denied any talks with Washington and rejected American claims.
Meanwhile, US President Trump indicated that the strategically important Strait of Hormuz may open soon. He also suggested that America and Iran could jointly operate this waterway. This statement of Trump is being considered as a signal towards reducing regional tension.
However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry had recently clarified that there have been no talks with America in the last 24 days. This statement came at a time when Iran’s conflict with America and Israel had intensified. Despite this, Trump claimed that in recent days there has been progress in talks between the two sides and some major points of agreement have emerged.
Trump’s instructions to the US Defense Department
As part of efforts to reduce tensions, Trump has instructed the US Defense Department to postpone possible attacks on Iran’s energy sites for five days. This decision has been taken at a time when the war in the region has reached its fourth week and it is also affecting the global energy supply.
According to Israeli media reports, America is considering a possible deadline of April 9 to end this conflict. An official indicated that the war was likely to end by this date, so that the situation could return to normal before Trump’s visit to Israel.
Apart from this, efforts are also being made by the mediator countries to organize a meeting between America and Iran in Islamabad. However, contradictory statements are still coming out at the official level regarding these efforts and alleged contacts, due to which the situation is not completely clear.
