Iran’s women’s team did not sing the national anthem, why did it take this step in the middle of the field?
Desk: Iran’s women’s football team decided not to sing the national anthem in its first Asian Cup game since Israel and the United States attacked their country. Here South Korea defeated Iran 3-0 in their group stage game in Gold Coast on Monday night. In the 2022 edition, the Korean team, which was second after China, completely dominated Iran. There was no impact of the war going on in our country, while some supporters waved Shah-era flags.
Iran coach Marziyeh Jafari did not answer questions about the military attacks and the death of the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Here, when the teams gathered for the pre-game national anthem, the cameras panned to the Iranian team and no players or coaches were seen singing the anthem or speaking its words.
Iran’s players had neutral expressions on their faces during the anthem played in a sad, emotional atmosphere at the Gold Coast Stadium. The national anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran is Mehr-e-Khavaran. It was adopted in 1990.
Veteran sports journalist Tracey Holmes wrote on social media that none of the Iranian players or coaches sang the national anthem before their match at the Women’s Asian Cup in Gold Coast. Whereas he was instructed to do so before leaving Iran so as not to embarrass the regime. Obviously, he has taken strength from the events happening in his country. There was also a group of Iranian supporters in the game who were waving a pre-Islamic Revolution flag with a golden lion and a sun.
