According to various media reports and claims being made on social media, a huge amount of cash and gold has been recovered during the raid at the residence of MP Hind Al-Abbasi. Reports have claimed that about 57 million US dollars i.e. about Rs 490 crore in cash and about 27 kg of gold have been recovered from the hideouts of Hind al-Abbasi. Pictures of bundles of cash, gold bricks and bra-panties allegedly made of gold are also going viral on social media, after which this matter has become a topic of discussion.
According to reports, anti-corruption action was not limited to just one MP. It has been claimed that about 20 billion Iraqi dinars in cash and a large amount of gold were also recovered from the house of MP Alia Nassif. Some reports also say that Aaliya Nasif and her son have been detained. In some reports, the gold bra-panty going viral has also been linked to Alia Nassif.
It is being told that the Iraqi government is adopting a strict stance against corruption and the Prime Minister has emphasized on the policy of zero tolerance in this matter. According to media reports, anti-terrorism units have also conducted raids in many sensitive areas including the Green Zone of the capital Baghdad. However, no official statement or confirmation has yet come from the Iraqi government regarding all these claims and viral pictures.
