Iraqi Intelligence Agency vows to hunt down perpetrators behind Baghdad HQ terror attack

Iraq’s National Intelligence Service (INIS) has pledged to hunt down those responsible for a recent attack on its headquarters in Baghdad, calling it a direct act of terrorism against the state.

In a statement, the agency said it would “pursue the perpetrators and those responsible and bring them to justice,” signaling a firm response amid ongoing security concerns in the country.

The attack targeted the INIS headquarters in the capital, damaging buildings and vehicles. Early reports suggest there were no immediate casualties, but the strike has once again exposed the vulnerability of key state institutions to militant attacks.

While no group has claimed responsibility so far, such incidents in Iraq are often linked to outlawed armed factions or Iran-aligned militias. These groups have previously carried out rocket and drone attacks on sensitive locations, including intelligence and security facilities, as part of wider regional tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

The INIS plays a crucial role in Iraq’s counterterrorism operations, particularly in tracking remnants of ISIS and monitoring militia activity. An attack on its headquarters is not just symbolic it directly challenges the country’s internal security framework.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s government has repeatedly condemned such acts, describing them as attacks on Iraq’s sovereignty. Authorities have consistently promised accountability in similar past incidents, including strikes on other security agencies in Baghdad.

The latest attack comes amid a pattern of drone and rocket strikes targeting high-security zones in the capital.

As investigations continue, Iraqi officials are expected to work closely with security partners to identify those behind the attack. The intelligence agency’s strong statement is both a warning to attackers and an attempt to reassure the public that efforts to safeguard national security remain firmly in place.
