Glitch in IRCTC website and app, passengers upset, big question raised

Obnews Tech Desk: Technical glitch was observed at the time of 10 am Tatkal ticket booking on IRCTC website and mobile app. When passengers tried to access the platform, they received an error message “The operation cannot be performed due to maintenance activity”. This spread anger among the passengers.

Problem encountered in Tatkal ticket booking

This is the second time this month that IRCTC services have come to a standstill. Earlier on December 9 also, passengers were troubled for one hour due to maintenance. The Tatkal ticket booking process is available only a day in advance, and this glitch significantly affected passengers who were expecting a 10 am ticket booking. The Downdetector website also confirmed that several complaints of IRCTC website and app being down were registered.

Passengers' anger erupted on social media

Troubled by the technical glitch, passengers started sharing their experiences on social media. Some passengers alleged that the system was deliberately shut down so that premium tickets could be sold. “When the website relaunched, all Tatkal tickets were booked, and only the expensive premium tickets were available,” a user wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav and the Prime Minister's Office were tagged in this post.
