IRCTC Ticket Refund Policy: There are going to be major changes in the rules for canceling railway tickets. If you cancel the ticket less than 8 hours before the departure of the train, you will not get any refund. If the ticket is canceled 8 to 24 hours before the departure of the train, 50% of the ticket fare will be deducted; 25% reduction will apply if canceled 24 to 72 hours before. If the ticket is canceled more than 72 hours before the departure of the train, the usual refund will be given as per the old rules.

Moreover, now offline tickets can be canceled from any location. This facility was earlier available only at the railway terminus. Additionally, you can now update your journey details up to 30 minutes before the train’s scheduled departure time. All these changes are likely to be implemented from April 1 to April 15.

Additionally, you can now change your ‘Boarding Station’ up to 30 minutes before train departure. This facility will be especially useful for passengers who get stuck in traffic jams or who face delays in their journey. Earlier, this facility was available only before the reservation table was prepared; However, now the process has been simplified and digitized. Moreover, if required, passengers can also change their class of travel.

Earlier, if a fixed ticket was cancelled, different charges were levied depending on the time of cancellation of the ticket. But now if the period before the departure of the train is more than 72 hours, as per ticket cancellation rule, more refund and nominal fee will be deducted for each passenger. Also, if the period is 72 to 24 hours, the usual deduction will be made. Of course up to 25% of the ticket fare will be deducted. Also, up to 50% of the ticket fare will be deducted in case of cancellation 24 to 8 hours late. Less than 8 hours cancellation facility will be closed and no refund will be given. No refund will be given if the ticket is canceled even after the departure of the train.

For waitlisted tickets, only a nominal fee of 20 (GST) was deducted; If the ticket remained fully in the waiting list even after the reservation table was created, it was automatically canceled and the full amount refunded without any additional deduction. In cases where the train was completely canceled or running late by more than 3 hours, a full refund of the ticket could be obtained even by filing a TDR.
