“Irfan Pathan expressed concern over the form of Abhishek Sharma”, important statement given before the semi-final from England…
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has expressed concern over Abhishek Sharma’s batting form, especially after India’s recent match against West Indies. Sharma, who scored only 10 runs off 11 balls, impressed with a brilliant half-century against Zimbabwe in the tournament. However, Pathan believes that Abhishek needs to make some changes in his technique.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Pathan said, “Abhishek Sharma’s form is a matter of concern. When he scored the half-century, it looked like he would keep scoring runs, but while playing against the West Indies, when he went for the shot, his back knee bent too much and his weight was falling backwards. Ideally, more weight should be on the front foot as it suits his game more. He will need to focus on that.”
Whereas, if we talk about the match against West Indies, India won the toss and decided to field first. West Indies got off to a good start with an excellent opening partnership between Roston Chase (40 runs in 25 balls) and captain Shai Hope (32 runs in 33 balls). However, despite a blistering innings from Shimron Hetmyer (27 runs in 12 balls), West Indies collapsed to 119/4 in 14.1 overs.
Jason Holder (37 in 22 balls) and Nicholas Pooran (34 in 19 balls) made an important partnership of 76 runs in 35 balls, taking West Indies to the score of 195/4 in 20 overs. For India, Jasprit Bumrah bowled with figures of 2/36, while Varun Chakravarthy and Hardik Pandya gave 40-40 runs.
India slipped to 41/2 during the powerplay in the chase, but a 58-run partnership between Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav (18) took over the innings. After this, India won by five wickets with contributions from Sanju Samson, Tilak Verma (27 runs off 15 balls), Hardik Pandya (17) and Shivam Dubey (8).
Talking about Suryakumar Yadav, Pathan inspired the batsman to score big innings. He said, “Suryakumar Yadav will have to score runs against big teams and he will have to keep this in mind.” Yadav is India’s leading run-scorer in this tournament, with 231 runs in seven innings, although he has struggled to produce big innings since his unbeaten 84 against USA.
