‘I am a father, I cannot see this happening…’, What happened on the field with Vaibhav Suryavanshi that Irfan Pathan burst into tears?
Irfan Pathan Slams Siraj and Rabada: Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has expressed his displeasure over the ‘bodyline bowling’ (bowling aimed at the body) done by Gujarat Titans bowlers against Rajasthan Royals’ young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Irfan says that even though Vaibhav is playing among big players, being a father he did not like seeing this at all. In fact, in the 14th over of Rajasthan Royals’ innings, a fast short-pitch ball from Kagiso Rabada hit Vaibhav directly on his helmet. After this, he had to undergo a mandatory concussion test on the field itself.
Bowling aimed at Vaibhav’s body
Although Vaibhav was not hurt by this ball, Irfan Pathan did not like Rabada’s aggressive attitude. He wrote on the social media platform ‘X’ on Friday night, ‘I did not find the bowling aimed at the body to stop 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi. I know that he is playing against big players, but the father inside me is not able to agree with this.
Interestingly, immediately after the ball hit the helmet, in the very next over (15th over), Mohammad Siraj also bowled the same, targeting Vaibhav’s body, but this time the young batsman gave a befitting reply and hit a brilliant six. The spectators present at Mullanpur ground got to see the thrill worth every penny in this match. Vaibhav batted fearlessly in front of the world’s great bowlers like Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder.
Earlier, after Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel returned to the pavilion in just the second over, Vaibhav had to change his strategy on an old pitch. On the other hand, the trio of Siraj, Rabada and Prasidh Krishna had adopted a clear strategy, they were continuously bowling back-of-the-length balls targeting Vaibhav’s body and occasionally dodging him with bouncers.
In the beginning, the bowlers did not give Vaibhav any chance to open his hands, due to which he faced some difficulty in setting the timing. But, despite such accurate and aggressive bowling, he played some amazing shots. The most memorable shot in this was a straight six hit by Rabada on a back-of-the-length ball with a speed of 153 km per hour.
