Irfan’s statement before IND vs PAK, takes aim at Shaheen Afridi

New Delhi, 12 February 2026: Pakistan may have defeated the United States in the 2026 T20 World Cup, but the performance of their star fast bowler Shaheen Afridi became the topic of discussion. Shaheen Afridi was not his usual self in the match played in Colombo. He bowled four overs, gave 42 runs and took only one wicket. The batsmen scored runs freely from his bowling, which clearly shows that he lacked rhythm.

Irfan Pathan hits the target

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan, who was commentating during the match, discussed in detail about Shahin’s bowling technique. The discussion started with the fact that Shaheen’s head was not directly towards the batsman while releasing the ball. Their front legs are wide open, which disturbs the balance of the body.

Irfan explained that when a fast bowler releases the ball, his head and shoulders should be towards the batsman. This gives better control over line and length. If the front foot is too open, the body leans in that direction, and the grip on the ball may become weak. He also said that keeping the shoulder towards the batsman while not bowling helps to stabilize the head and makes bowling more accurate.

Pressure increased before India match

Now the biggest consideration is the big match between India and Pakistan on 15th February. In such a high-pressure match, every ball is important. Indian batsmen are known for their aggressive play against fast bowlers. If Shaheen is unable to improve his line and length, he may face problems.

Shaheen Afridi has been leading Pakistan’s bowling attack for a long time, and the team is confident of his ability to take wickets in big matches. However, considering his current performance, the team management will need to work on his action and balance.
