Do not consider fatigue and weakness during periods as minor! These measures will fulfill the iron deficiency in the body

Iron Deficiency During Periods: Periods are a normal process for women, but heavy bleeding during this period can cause the iron level in the body to drop rapidly. This is why many women feel extreme lethargy, dizziness and cramps during these days. Ignoring it can cause serious conditions like anemia.

Every month during periods, many hormonal and physical changes occur in the body of women. Normally, 30-80 ml of blood comes out in this cycle which lasts for 3 to 7 days. But when this quantity exceeds 80 ml then it is called heavy menstrual bleeding. Since iron is abundant in our blood, excessive bleeding directly means rapid removal of iron from the body.

Why does iron level fall?

During periods, when the lining of the uterus (endometrium) sheds, the body needs extra iron to make new blood cells. If there is a deficiency of iron in the diet, hemoglobin in the body starts decreasing, due to which the circulation of oxygen slows down. This is why women feel symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, hair fall and yellowness on the face.

How to overcome iron deficiency?

Include things like spinach, beetroot, pomegranate, jaggery, kidney beans and gram in your plate. Dry fruits like dates, raisins and almonds are also an excellent source of iron.

Eating iron alone is not enough; Vitamin C is very important for the body to absorb it. Citrus fruits like orange, amla, lemon and tomato increase the absorption of iron.

doctor’s advice

If weakness persists despite eating and drinking, iron-folic acid tablets can be taken on doctor’s advice. It helps in recovering from blood loss faster. In case of excessive pain or bleeding during periods, a specialist should be immediately consulted so that the risk of anemia can be avoided in time.
