Is 4000 tonnes of gold from temples going to be sold? The government itself broke its silence on the floating news
Recently, the government had appealed to the people not to buy gold for a year. After this appeal, the discussion in the market and social media became very intense that the government is now preparing to bring the gold kept in homes and big temples of the country into the market. Completely rejecting these rumors and speculations flying all around, the government has issued a big statement on Tuesday. The government has said in clear words that it has no intention of monetizing the gold held by temple trusts or any religious institution across the country.
Finance Ministry called the rumors completely baseless
In view of the increasing controversy, the Finance Ministry itself has come forward and clarified the situation. The ministry said that such rumors circulating on social media are completely false, misleading and baseless. The Ministry clearly said that the claims of including the gold on the pinnacles, doors or other structures of the temples as India’s Strategic Gold Reserve are also completely fabricated. Along with this, the Ministry has made an emotional appeal to all the citizens of the country that they should not believe any such rumors at all nor should they share them further. Such unconfirmed and false information creates unnecessary confusion in the society and misleads the common people.
Trust only official information
The government has advised all citizens to rely only on official information issued through authorized channels. The Finance Ministry stressed that any authentic information related to policy decisions or any scheme of the government will always be shared with the country only through official press releases, government websites and verified public communication platforms. Therefore, do not accept anything you hear as true.
After all, how much gold is there in the temples of the country?
It is very interesting that the gold kept in the temples and houses of India is considered to be more than the total gold reserves of the central banks of many big countries of the world. If seen from a comparative perspective, the Government of India and the RBI officially have gold reserves of about 880 tonnes. On the other hand, if we talk about the temples of the country, although there is no official government data available about the total gold present there, but different reports and estimates of market experts suggest that there may be around 3,000 to 4,000 tonnes of gold in the small and big temples of the country. This huge amount is much more than the total gold held with the central banks of many powerful countries. Recently, a lie was being spread on social media regarding this immense treasure that the government was going to sell or use it, on which the Finance Ministry has now completely put an end to it.
