Galgotias University got into trouble for its claim regarding a robotic dog at the AI Impact Summit 2026. In the end, Galgotias University was also shown the way out of the AI Summit. Now due to this incident, along with Galgotias, the organizer of this conference i.e. the Government of India is also being criticized. Questions are being raised as to why the products or innovations of those who were given permission to set up stalls or build pavilions at the AI Summit were not examined? Meanwhile, the patent of Galgotias University is also being discussed. A claim is being made that Galgotias University alone has got more patents than all the IITs together could not get.
If you make a discovery, Indian law gives you the right to protect it so that no one else can use it commercially. In this, it is kept in mind that no one else has made a similar discovery. Once a patent is registered, the patent remains with you for 20 years.
Who is getting the most patents?
Every year, the report related to patent registration is issued by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, Trademarks and Geographical Indications. The report for the year 2024-25 also tells which institute, which company got how many patents and in which sector. The same report shows that every year the number of applications for patent, design patent, trademark and copyright registration is increasing.

According to the same report, a total of 1,10,375 patent applications were filed in the year 2024-25, of which 33,504 were approved. The government also earned a total of Rs 1449.47 crore through all the works like patent, trademark, GI and copyright.
Really, Galgotias University has got more patents than IIT?
The data comparing with IIT is for the year 2022-23. It has been told that Lovely Professional University was at the forefront among the five institutions in filing information technology patents and it filed applications for a total of 512 patents in a year. That year, Galgotias University filed a total of 209 patent applications in IT.
If we talk about scientific research, all the IITs together filed applications for 803 patents. Galgotias University is not named in the top 10 institutes of scientific research. When it comes to educational institutions, Lovely Professional University was at the forefront that year and filed a total of 1387 patent applications. Jain University filed a total of 1093 patents and Galgotias University filed a total of 1089 patents. All the IITs filed a total of 803 patents and Chandigarh University filed 752 patents.

The same report shows that Lovely Professional University gave the maximum number of patent applications in the IT sector. LPU applied for a total of 884 patents, Samsung Electronics for 652 and Google for 467. If we talk about patents of educational institutions, LPU applied for a total of 2242 patents this year. Savita Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), which stood second, gave a total of 2038 applications, all the IITs together gave 1740 applications, Jain University gave 1504 applications. This year the name of Galgotias University was not included in the top 10 list.
