Is it a sin to fire someone? Know the answer of Premanand Maharaj

Premanand Maharaj is a famous saint and spiritual guru of Vrindavan. People coming to his Kelly Kunj Ashram come from all walks of life. Devotees come here to get solutions to their life-related problems, questions and difficulties. Premanand Maharaj shows them the path of God and devotion and tries to simplify the problems of life by answering their questions.

Is it a sin to fire someone from a job?

Recently a person asked Maharaj that sometimes employees have to be fired due to job or business circumstances. Is this a sin? The person specifically wanted to know that when employees are removed as per office conditions, will the person responsible be held guilty.

What did Premanand Maharaj say?

On this, Premanand Maharaj said that if the employee is not involved in any crime and is fired from the job only due to personal preference or adverse circumstances, then it will be considered a sin from the divine point of view. He explained that the difficulties related to a person’s job are not limited to that person only, but it affects his entire family. In such a situation, if a good employee is fired contrary to religion and morality, then the person who took the decision will have to bear the burden of the pain and loss caused by it.

When the person asked whether it would be a sin if the company was running at a loss and had to lay off the employees, Maharaj answered this. He said that if there are 500 employees in the company and the resources are enough for only 300 people, then in such a situation firing the employees will not be considered a sin. He clarified that it is appropriate to take decisions only on the basis of business necessity.

When should one give a second chance?

Premanand Maharaj also told that if an employee has committed a big mistake, which is not forgivable, then it is appropriate to fire him from the job. But if the mistake is small and there is scope for improvement, then a second chance should be given. In this way, it is necessary to keep in mind justice and devotion in the decision of termination.

This guidance of Premanand Maharaj not only helps in taking right decisions in job and business, but also teaches to live life in a moral and balanced way. Striking a balance between work and religion is prominently visible in his preaching.
