Is Kanpur test the final match of Shakib’s test career? Here’s what the BCB has to say

As the controversy surrounding Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan continues, his earlier settlement with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruque Ahmed is once again in the media as he claimed that the board cannot guarantee the safety of the former captain after he returns to Bangladesh to play his farewell Test match for the country.

Currently, Shakib is with the Bangladesh team which is looking for their first Test victory against India since the year 2000, however, he has been known to express before his retirement from Test cricket, the desire to retire from Test cricket after the match against the South African team at Mirpur where he plays.

However, with the political situation in the country deteriorating, the BCB had to issue an explanation that it would dependent solely on the security threats that may arise.

“We don’t have it (Shakib’s security) in our hands. The security needs to come from the government and he will have to take his own decision. We cannot say anything about his security. We don’t have the ability to provide security to any individual,” Faruque told reporters at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

“We are not an agency or police or RAB. The security arrangement has to be provided by the government outside of that the board cannot comment on.”

All these if fail then the next Test match against India can be looked at as his last match for Bangaldesh in Test cricket.

“Shakib is going through a tough time personally so we cannot say much from our side. Like him even I think if he can play his last Test from here, there cannot be anything better than that but his security issues need to be assured by the higher authorities.”

Bangladesh have not defeated India in a Test match since the year 2000, when they first met in Dhaka. So far, the two sides have contest 14 matches, out of which India has claimed 12 victories and the other two ended in stalemates.

Immensely Talented and experienced bowling duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin created waves in the first Test for India against Bangladesh.

The vistors though will be eager to change the complexion of the game in the second Test match, which is set to kick off on 27th September at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
