Is Rosé’s song APT’s success at the Billboard Hot 100 chart attributed to BTS?

HYBE is involved in yet another issue between BTS and Rosé of BLACKPINK, after a Korean news agency published a story claiming that BTS is responsible for Rosé’s success with the song “APT.” As a result, HYBE has received negative feedback from online users.

On November 19, 2024, a message went viral online in which internet users expressed their disapproval of a specific story published by the Korean news source Money Today. According to the publication, BTS was the main factor for HYBE’s commanding presence in the entertainment sector. It emphasized that, BTS had topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart eight times and broken multiple Billboard records during their more than 50 chart appearances.

The story claims that BTS’s influence helped the global pop market, which had previously shown little interest in K-pop, grow. As a result, Rosé of BLACKPINK, who featured Bruno Mars in her single APT, rose to eighth place on the Billboard charts.

Fans criticized HYBE, claiming that the firm was manipulating the media. Nevertheless, there is no proof that HYBE was involved in any way or gave instructions for the piece to be published.

Rosé became the first K-pop female soloist to reach the number one place on the Global Spotify list with the song APT which got 50 million monthly listeners on the app as well. Three weeks after its debut, the song has already received over 300 million Spotify plays.

In addition, the official music video for APT became the fastest tune of 2024 to reach 100 million views in less than a week. Additionally, the song became the highest-charting female K-pop artist on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at number 8 for three weeks running in the top 15.
