Is Shami going to feature in the Border Gavaskar trophy for team india? Here’s what the report suggests.

Is Mohammed Shami going to be a part of the Border Gavaskar Trophy? That is one big question in the minds of all Indian cricketers fans as the team gets ready to face Australia from Friday at Perth. Shami was the leading wicket-taker for India in the 2023 ODI World cup but he had a lot of injuries before even returning to play some days back in the Ranji Trophy, where he played for Bengal. That performance raised hopes that Shami may be catching the next plane to Australia.

But Shami as he has now been included in Bengal’s squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, which begins from November 23 and they are slated to play Punjab on the same day. The India versus Australia series kicks off a day in advance.

Previously, a report by news agency PTI explained that thanks to the Federation of Indian Cricketers Mohammed Shami should make his international comeback in the vicinity of the Border Gavaskar Trophy but only in the later part of the series. Those who are privy to the developments have said that the BCCI medical team along with the national selectors are keen on Shami playing a few more competitive matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in order to assess how his body copes after several games considering it’s the white ball format of the tournament.

“Bengal’s squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be finalized tomorrow. In case Shami is not going for the Border Gavaskar Trophy, I think he will be there for Bengal,” the head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla is quoted by PTI as saying.

It is understood that the selection committee does not want to take risk by rushing in Shami who has just played one Ranji Trophy match after a long rehabilitation where many experts did not recommend going through with.

All that considered, it was Shami who had not played a single competitive match in over a year, who played for Bengal in Indore against Madhya Pradesh and had a remarkable return to the cricketing scene with a seven-wicket match haul that helped his side secure its first win of the season.
