Is the bike battery dying frequently? The fault may not be the battery, but the ‘magneto carbon’! understand
Bike owners often face a headache – the bike won’t self-start frequently, so they spend thousands of rupees and install a new dead battery. But ironically, within two-four days even that new battery gets completely down or discharged. In such cases we blame the battery company. But wait, the real problem may not lie in the battery, but in your bike’s ‘stator coil’, also known as the ‘magneto coil’.
The stator coil is your bike’s own electricity generating project. The main function of this part is to keep the battery continuously charged and power the headlights while the car is running. If this magneto carbon is burnt or damaged, it cannot deliver charging current to the battery.
How exactly does the battery charge while driving? Learn in simple language
The main symptoms of stator coil (magneto carbon) damage are,
1. Frequent battery discharge: Even after inserting a new battery, it discharges again in 2 to 3 days, because it does not charge while driving.
2. Headlight dimming: If the headlight doesn’t light up even when the car’s accelerator is raised, or if it seems to be much dimmer than usual, it’s a clear sign that the coil is bad.
3. Thinning of the horn: The sound of the horn does not sound properly even when the car is running.
4. Sudden shutdown while driving: Especially in cars with digital meters, if the stator coil fails, the running car will shut off with a sudden jerk and then no kick-start.

What should be done about this??
Check with multimeter: First of all go to any good mechanic and check the battery current with a ‘multimeter’ while the car is running. If the output current is less than 13 to 14 volts, it is certain that the coil is bad.
Coil Repairing: If the budget is tight, some local mechanics can fix this by rewound the copper wire on the coil. This is a cheaper option.
Installing new stator coil: However, for long life and safety, the best and permanent solution is to replace the old coil with original new stator coils from the company.
In short: Be sure to have a mechanic check the magneto carbon before replacing the battery, so you don’t waste your hard-earned money.
