In a post shared on X, Ledger Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Charles Guillemette claimed that Ledger Donjon, the cryptocurrency firm’s division of security researchers, has discovered a flaw that is targeting millions of Android devices equipped with MediaTek chipsets. It is said that this problem is related to Trustonic TEE. It is a ‘code execution environment’ used to secure sensitive data on MediaTek’s Dimensity and Helio series chipset Android handsets.

This group of researchers conducted a vulnerability test on CMF Phone 1. MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset is provided in this phone. According to the report, during this test the group was able to breach the security of the smartphone and access the data within 45 seconds of connecting it to the computer. So it is now being claimed that any Android smartphone equipped with MediaTek is likely to be affected.

Researchers could also easily access the security PIN of Android smartphones with MediaTek chipsets by exploiting this flaw. Along with this, they could also access the phone’s ‘decrypted storage’. These are 12 to 24 word passwords, used for cryptocurrency verification and account recovery. The executive also claimed that security researchers don’t even need to turn on the phone to access sensitive data. The flaw could compromise the security of ‘millions of Android phones’, allowing criminals to gain access to users’ cryptocurrency wallets and make transactions without users’ knowledge. So it is very important for users to be careful while using the smartphone.
