There are 10 days left for the start of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The first match of the season will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Before this SRH has taken a big decision. The franchise has made Ishan Kishan the captain. This was already a possibility, as SRH’s regular captain Pat Cummins has still not recovered from the back injury.

SRH made the official announcement on Wednesday (March 18) stating that Ishan will be the captain until Cummins is fit. Abhishek Sharma has been given the responsibility of vice-captain. SRH wrote on its official X-hander, ‘Cummins is recovering from injury. Therefore he will not be able to play in some matches. Till his recovery, Ishan will be the captain and Abhishek will be the vice-captain.

This scene will be seen for the second time in IPL history

As soon as Ishaan becomes the captain, this is going to happen for the second time in IPL history, when all the teams will start their season under Indian players. This has happened before in 2019. That season too, the captains of all the teams except SRH were Indians. But due to Kane Williamson not being available, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took command of the team.

Ishan was bought by SRH for Rs 11.25 crore before IPL 2025. He had played an excellent century for SRH in the very first match. However, his bat became quiet in the middle of the season. He ended the season with an unbeaten inning of 94 runs. Ishaan scored a total of 354 runs in IPL 2025. During this period his strike rate was 152.58.
