Ishan Kishan will have to wait for India’s T20I squad, Sanju Samson likely to retain his place

Sanju Samson is likely to retain his place in Team India’s T20I squad, while Ishan Kishan will have to wait before playing a game for the Men in Blue. Samson, who was a part of the team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the series against Zimbabwe, played two contests in Sri Lanka. However, he registered two ducks.

The selection committee wants to give him a long rope. According to Cricbuzz, Samson is the preferred choice for the series against Bangladesh. Ishan has been named in the squad for the Irani Cup and will not be considered for the international games.

The report further added that Samson could open the innings as Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are likely to be rested.

The regular players in the Test team could be rested for the T20Is against Bangladesh, as India will play three Tests against New Zealand before leaving for Australia.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been appointed as captain of the Rest of India squad, could also miss the shortest format series. The Irani Cup will be played for five days, starting October 1.  The India-Bangladesh T20I series will be played between October 6 to 12.

Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team with Hardik Pandya also making a return.
