Alaeddine Ajaray, the headline act of Match Week 7
The ISL match week 7 concluded on Monday night with Bengaluru FC holding on to their spot at the top of the table despite suffering a 0-3 loss to FC Goa.
Hot on the heels of Bengaluru FC is Mohun Bagan, who have a game to spare and after blanking Hyderabad, are now within three points of the table toppers.
Match week 7 witnessed a host of goals.
Chennayin pumped five past a listless Jamshedpur on Monday night while Mumbai City netted four past Kerala Blasters.
Similarly, FC Goa, NorthEast United and Punjab FC, all scored thrice in their victories over Bengaluru, Odisha and Chennayin.
Here is Read’s pick for the Team of the Week for Match week 7:
Goalkeeper
Mohammed Nawaz (CFC)
The Chennayin custodian started the game against Jamshedpur and tasted success on the night. Nawaz produced a total of three saves, with two being made from efforts inside of the box.
Defenders
Boris Singh (FCG)
In the game against Benagluru FC, Boris Singh effected a total of four clearances.
In addition to interceptions and tackles, Singh distributed the ball with 81% accuracy. He was resolute in defense and there quite simply was no way for Bengaluru to find a way through FC Goa’s defense on the night.
Sandesh Jhinghan(FCG)
Returning after a lengthy injury lay off, Sandesh Jhinghan played the entirety of the game against Bengaluru FC.
While he wasn’t quite at his historic best, he did distribute passes with a 67% accuracy. That said, his performance and fitness on the night was good enough and Jhinghan duly received a call up to the national squad.
Alex Saji (HFC)
Against Mohun Bagan Saji had a lot of heavy lifting to do.
He played the entire duration of the game and executed seven clearances and blocked as many as three shots.
Also, he had 50 touches and executed passes with 50% accuracy.
Nathan Rodrigues (MCFC)
Against Kerala Blasters, Nathan Rodrigues turned in a five-star performance.
Playing the entire 90-minutes of the game, Rodrigues’ passing accuracy was high at 87%.
Also, with 52 touches of the ball, he executed three tackles and effected two clearances.
Midfielders
Irfan Yadwad (CFC)
Against Jamshedpur, Yadwad was substituted off in the 89th minute.
That said, the midfielder by then had turned in a compelling performance with 70% of his passes finding their mark.
What’s more, Yadwad found the back of the net once and even provided two goal-assists.
In the match against Punjab, however, Yadwad found the going tough.
His passing accuracy was at 56% but for 45 touches and winning 7 duels, Yadwad finds a spot in this team.

Chhangte had a stellar game against Kerala. With a goal and an assist, in addition to passing with 70% accuracy, Chhangte was busy on the flanks.
Also, with 47 touches and a shot on goal, Chhangte put in a workhorse-like performance.
Dejan Dražić (FCG)
Drazic scored one of the three goals that helped FC Goa sink Bengaluru FC.
With 58 touches and passing with a 83% accuracy, Drazic played out an intense game.
Alaeddine Ajaray (NEUFC)
The Morrocan is off to a blistering start in the season thus far.
Against Odisha, Ajaray found the back of the net twice and turned in an assist to boot as well.
With 51 touches and passing at an accuracy of 70%, Ajary was as busy a bee on the pitch.
Forwards
Luka Majcen (PFC)
Against Chennai, Majcen played 68-minutes but his impact was felt long after he left the pitch.
His twin-strike set the platform for Punjab to topple Chennai on the night.
With two shots on target and an 85% passing accuracy, Majcen was the star of the night.
Wilmar Jordan Gil (CFC)
Jordan delivered not once but twice in match week 7 for Chennai.
Against Jamshedpur, Jordan had four shots on target and scored once.
And in the Punjab-game, Jordan was at it again. He played the entire duration of the match, had two shots on target and scored a brace as well.
For turning in a five-star performance, Jordan duly finds a spot in our team of the week for match week 7.
