Van Nieff’s curler and other top strikes from matchweek two

Matchweek two of the 2024-25 edition of the Indian Super League was a treat for the fans, with a total of 21 goals scored across six games.

From the very first goal of the matchweek, where Rahul Bheke of Bengaluru FC volleyed home a Vinit corner in the fourth minute of the game against Hyderabad FC, it was a sign of things to come.

A vast majority of the goals scored were brilliant strikes, and it was very difficult to pick out the best goals of the week but we at Read bring to you, the top five goals of match week two of ISL 2024-25.

#5: Alaeddin Ajaraie, Northeast United

There can be perfectly struck volleys, there can be long-range screamers, and there can be acrobatic goals like bicycle kicks, but nothing can beat the adrenaline rush of watching a perfectly executed counterattack.

That is exactly what we witnessed in NEUFC’s second goal against Mohun Bagan SG.

Winning the ball deep in their half, NEUFC attackers swiftly turned defense into offense as they scampered forward with blistering pace, and Madathil Subran running in from the right, laid it off to Ajaraie who found the bottom corner with a precise strike.

#4: Kwame Peprah, Kerala Blasters

After a disappointing home defeat in their opening match, Kerala Blasters opened their account in this year’s ISL with a stunning comeback victory against East Bengal FC.

With the score tied at 1-1 heading into the final minutes, KBFC won the ball back thanks to the high pressing from Rahul and Peprah, took a touch, and rocketed the ball into the bottom corner, sending the stadium into a frenzy.

A magnificent strike in the 88th minute to give Kerala Blasters all three points.

If there was anything better than the goal, it was his celebratory dance after scoring the winner!

#3: Mohammad Ali Bemammer, NorthEast United

The final match of match week two turned out to be a goal-fest, with NorthEast United and Mohun Bagan playing out a fascinating five-goal thriller.

The opening goal of the night was a vicious 30-yard screamer from Bemammer, who hit it first time right into the bottom corner.

The goal was purely down to the brilliance of the NEUFC’s no.6, who latches on to a loose ball from the left side and drills the ball low and hard into the net.

#2: Nikos Karelis, Mumbai City FC

The match between Jamshedpur FC and Mumbai City FC was a thrilling contest, and although Mumbai City lost 2-3, the two goals they scored will be something the fans will remember for a long time.

The first of the two goals was scored by Nikos Karelis. Picking up the ball in the right half-space, the Greek forward darted forward, cut in and let go of a belter of a strike from 25 yards, catching the Jamshedpur FC goalkeeper off guard.

#1: Yoell Van Nieff, Mumbai City FC

Van Nieff’s goal against Jamshedpur FC is not just our goal of the match, but will also be a strong contender for the ISL goal of the season.

Trailing 3-1 to Jamshedpur FC, Mumbai City was in desperate need of inspiration and Van Nieff gave them just that.

In the 77th minute, after getting the ball at the edge of the box, Van Nieff drifted in and found himself in space. Without second thoughts, he struck a beautiful curling effort from close to 25 yards, and the ball gracefully swung into the top corner, leaving the Jamshedpur keeper speechless.

There are few sights better on a football field than watching a ball curl into the top corner of the net. Take a bow Van Nieff!
