Following the return of Sergio Lobera, there was a 1-1 draw between Mumbai City FC and Odisha FC at the Mumbai Football Arena in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 tonight, with goals from charismatic strikers Roy Krishna and Nikolas Karelis helping both. The teams had to be satisfied with one point each.
The game started explosively and ended in equally intense conditions, but the interval was a bit of a cautious affair, with both sides locked in a struggle for tactical dominance – refusing to give up even an inch, criss-crossing the opposition's defence. Spreading wide and creating many chances but still managing to get their defensive movements together to keep the other team at bay.
Lobera was the happier of the two coaches at the start of the game, with his frontline moving forward and putting pressure on the Mumbai City FC defence. Their attack was led by Fiji's forward Roy Krishna, who produced a brilliant performance and got the advantage in the 14th minute. When the Islanders tried to take the lead from behind, Valpuia lobbed it past goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpaa. The goalkeeper brought the ball down but could not control the ball and Krishna took advantage of the opportunity to take the ball back and put it in the back of the net, helping Juggernauts take the lead in the game.
However, soon after this the home team resumed its strategy. Their attacking unit began to operate in their trademark manner, with Lalianzuala Changte carrying the ball forward and making passes into the center for the strikers or advancing midfielders. His link-up with Karelis was a great experience for the home fans and one such move earned him the equalizer in the 23rd minute. Near the goal line, Changte broke through the Odisha FC backline and delivered a sharp ball, which Karelis tackled brilliantly, all he had to do was put his foot on the ball, so that the ball reached Amrinder Singh and the team coached by Petr Kratky Can get back in the game.
