Odisha FC rules the Team of the Week for the Match Week 9

Indian Super League made an exciting return this week after a long international break and provided many high-scoring games and a few of the dominating victories in the Match Week 9.

Bengaluru FC and Mohun Bagan SG continued to lead on the top of the league standings with their respective wins this week whereas Mumbai City FC’s inconsistent run continued as they suffered a heavy defeat at home.

Here’s Read’s Team of the Week for Matchweek 9:

Goalkeeper

Gurmeet Singh – Northeast United FC

Gurmeet had an outstanding outing this week, making seven crucial saves against the likes of explosive forwards like Luka Majcen and Ezequiel Vidal, who were pressing hard after conceding two early goals.

He was the key man for Northeast United’s important win in this away game, which helped them to jump up to the top 3 of the league table.

Defenders

Sandeep Singh – Kerala Blasters FC

The right-back Sandeep Singh played a crucial role in Kerala Blasters FC’s big win at home in the southern derby match against Chennaiyin FC.

He showcased a brilliant defensive display to tackle the long crosses and high balls using his aerial presence. He also provided two accurate crosses to switch the play from defense to attack.

Mourtada Fall – Odisha FC

The Senegalese defender has always been a solid figure in Odisha’s defense as he brilliantly uses his physicality to win most of the aerial duels and deny the opponent’s entry in his penalty box.

Also, he poses an equal threat in the attack during set-pieces, scoring important goals like the one goal he scored this week against Hyderabad FC, standing unmarked on the far side.

Rahul Bheke – Bengaluru FC

The experienced India international continued his good form this season in the match against Mohammedan SC, stopping their quick Brazilian forward Franco from taking many shots on target.

He commands the team’s backline after conceding an early goal and denying any further damage in the game, which they later won because of a late goal.

Abhishek Singh – Punjab FC

The young wing-back from Punjab FC impressed a lot of people this week as he played his two matches in different wings but still showcased some brilliant movement on the counter-attack.

He also showed good defensive display, winning a lot of duels against the wingers and stopping them from making precise crosses to the forwards.

Midfielders

Ezequiel Vidal – Punjab FC

The Argentine winger has had an impressive start to his ISL career this year, helping his team in attack and providing a big threat with his accurate set-piece crosses.

This week, he scored his second ISL goal in an away match against Mumbai City FC with a brilliant curving shot on the far side from the edge of the box.

Isak Vanlalruatfela – Odisha FC

The young winger of Odisha FC impressed in the match against Hyderabad FC, scoring the opening goal for his side in what was a thumping 6-0 victory in an away match.

He made a lot of precise crosses from the left flank, troubling the Hyderad’s defense, after scoring his first goal of the season.

Liston Colaco – Mohun Bagan SG

The Indian midfielder had a good outing this week as he posted a big threat against Jamshedpur FC with his defense spitting runs from the center to trouble the defense.

He also scored his first goal of the season, showcasing some brilliant dribbling skills to cut past five defenders to complete a world-class individual goal.

Noah Sadaoui – Kerala Blasters FC

The Moroccan winger is one of the most threatening attacking players of the season so far as he always finds his teammates on his crosses and never misses a chance to take a shot at the target.

This week, he had a two-goal contribution against Chennaiyin FC, scoring the second goal for the side, and showcasing a selfless play to make an assist in injury time to unmarked Rahul KP.

Forwards

Sunil Chettri – Bengaluru FC

The veteran Indian striker made it place to the team of the week, despite coming in as a substitute in the 53rd minute. He completely turned to fortunes for Bengaluru FC who was trailing by a goal.

He converted a penalty corner in the 82nd minute to find an important equalizer for his side and become the first player to score against 15 different clubs in ISL.

Later, in the 99th minute, he helped the team score the winner as he used his swift movement in the box to find a header, which was deflected in by Mohemmadan SC’s defender, resulting in his own goal.

Diego Mauricio – Odisha FC

The Brazilian forward Diego Mauricio had an outstanding outing this week, coming in as a substitute in the first half, he scored a goal and assisted two in the final 15 minutes to complete a 6-0 thumping over Hyderabad FC.

With this, he has now completed seven goal contributions for Odisha FC, which is the most by any player so far in the ongoing season.
