Israel puts forward new proposal for ceasefire with Hamas

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu's advisor has presented a new agreement proposal to the US President Biden administration for a ceasefire with Hamas and the release of hostages. This offer has been made at a time when Israel is on the verge of war with Hezbollah after the pager explosion in Lebanon and there is tension across West Asia. Netanyahu's close aide Gal Hirsch has said that the proposal talks about a permanent end to the conflict in Gaza. Hamas has not yet responded to the Israeli proposal.

According to the report, the agreement demands the simultaneous release of all hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. In return, Israel will also release all Palestinian prisoners. Israel has offered Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar a safe haven outside Palestine in exile. The presence of Israeli forces in Gaza has not been discussed in the new proposed deal, which has been an important issue in recent times.

America said – there should be a ceasefire in Gaza
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Thursday that he does not want to see any action from either side that would make the Gaza ceasefire agreement difficult. He said a ceasefire in Gaza is possible and necessary. Blinken has also discussed the ceasefire agreement with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi. The Egyptian President has said that talks have been held to make progress on ceasefire talks and prisoner exchanges.

There is increasing pressure in Israel on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a ceasefire and hostage agreement with Hamas. Recently, a big demonstration has taken place in Israel in which the protesters demanded the return of the hostages. The protesters said that the government is constantly promising to bring back the hostages but no progress is being seen in this direction.

Hamas attacked an event in Israel on 7 October last year and took more than 200 people hostage. Hamas has kept these people hostage in Gaza. In the ceasefire agreement, some people have been handed over to Israel but some people are still in Hamas' custody. Demonstrations are being held continuously in Israel for their release.
