Israel Katz: Israel's former Foreign Minister Israel Katz will be the new Defense Minister of the country. A major political step has been taken in Israel, which is facing all-round attack in Western Asia. PM Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Galant. In a surprise announcement Netanyahu said he no longer had confidence in Gallant to conduct Israeli military operations in Gaza and Lebanon.

Israel Katz has been a member of the Knesset since 1998 and has been part of committees handling the Defense Ministry. Before becoming the External Affairs Minister in 2019, he was the Minister of Finance, Intelligence, Energy, Transport and Agriculture.
Israel Katz was born in 1955 in the Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon. Katz joined the Army in 1973 and left the service in 1977 to serve as a paratrooper. Katz studied as a graduate and post-graduate at the Hebrew University of Israel. He is married and has two children.
However, this is not the first time Netanyahu has fired Galant. Galant was also removed in October last year, 2023 months before the Gaza conflict started. However, he was reinstated after public protest.
