Israel’s rapid attack on Iran, Tehran reverberated with explosions

New Delhi: The Israeli military has said it has carried out a series of attacks on Iran, targeting several Iranian government targets. Explosions were heard in the capital, Tehran.

IEA chief says situation in West Asia is extremely dire
International Energy Agency (IEA) Executive Director Fatih Birol warned that the situation in West Asia is extremely dire. He said the current situation is worse than it was in 1970. Speaking to media in Australia, Birol said the best solution to the current crisis is to open the Strait of Hormuz, which is partially blocked by Iran.

Iran threatens to completely close the Strait of Hormuz
After the US issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran and threatened to attack Iranian energy facilities, Iran has retaliated. Iran has said it will completely close the Strait of Hormuz if its power plants are attacked.

Missile destroyed in Abu Dhabi, Indian injured by debris
An Indian citizen was injured by debris falling during a missile attack in UAE capital Abu Dhabi. According to Abu Dhabi Media Office, the incident occurred when the air defence system destroyed a ballistic missile heading towards the capital in mid-air. The debris fell in Al Shawamekh area, leaving locals and nearby residents in fear and panic. The authorities immediately secured the area and started removing the debris. The injured Indian citizen has been admitted to a nearby hospital and his condition is said to be stable.

Protests in the US over the Iran war
Senior Democratic Party leader Chuck Schumer in the United States has demanded an immediate end to the US military campaign against Iran. He wrote on Instagram, “Enough is enough. Let’s end this war.” Schumer warned that even some Republican senators are openly admitting they don’t know what the administration is trying to achieve in West Asia.

He further stated that billions of dollars are being spent on this war, and American citizens are directly impacting fuel prices. For example, the average price of gas in the US has now reached $3.94 per gallon.

The international oil market
also saw a rise. US benchmark crude oil, WTI, for May delivery, rose 1.78% to $100.10 per barrel. Similarly, Brent crude prices rose 1.73% to $113.44 per barrel. This increase was recorded as soon as the market opened on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
