ISRO’s heaviest satellite till date, video call possible from anywhere
The LVM3-M6 rocket launched at 8:55:30 am from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota.
Bluebird Block-2 launched:The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched the American satellite Bluebird Block-2 through an LVM3-M6 rocket on Wednesday morning from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Weighing 6,100 kg, Bluebird is the heaviest satellite ever launched from India. ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan called it a major achievement for the country. Earlier, the LVM3-M5 communication satellite-03, launched in November, weighed about 4,400 kg and was placed in Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).
Bluebird Block-2 was launched with an LVM3-M6 rocket, which weighs 640 tonnes and is India’s heaviest launch vehicle. Bluebird Block-2 is a next-gen communications satellite that aims to provide high-speed cellular broadband connectivity directly to ordinary smartphones.
Through this, 4G and 5G voice calls, video calls, messaging, streaming and data services will be available without tower at any place in the world. This mission is part of a commercial agreement between NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) and US-based AST Spacemobile (AST & Science, LLC). NewSpace India is the commercial arm of ISRO.
15 minutes after launch, the satellite successfully separated from the rocket.
According to ISRO, the approximately 43.5 meter high LVM3-M6 rocket was scheduled to launch at 8:54 am on Wednesday from the second launch pad in Sriharikota. However, it was delayed by 90 seconds at 8:55:30 am. After about 15 minutes of flight, the Bluebird Block-2 satellite separated from the rocket and was successfully placed in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) at an altitude of about 520 kilometers.
ISRO said that thousands of active satellites were continuously passing over the space area of Sriharikota. Keeping in mind the possibility of collision with other satellites, the launch time of the mission was advanced by 90 seconds.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated ISRO. He wrote in a post on social media platform A proud milestone in India’s space journey. This strengthens India’s heavy-lift launch capability and underpins our growing role in the global commercial launch market.
A significant stride in India’s space sector…

LVM3-M6, also known as GSLV Mk-III, is a three-stage rocket of ISRO. It has a cryogenic engine, which has been developed by ISRO’s Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre. For lift-off, two S200 solid rocket boosters have been installed in the rocket, which have been developed by Vikram Sarabhai Space Center in Thiruvananthapuram.
This is the ninth flight of LVM3 and the third commercial mission for the Bluebird Block-2 satellite. According to ISRO, LVM3 has so far carried out eight consecutive successful launches, including flagship missions like Chandrayaan-2 and Chandrayaan-3.
This rocket had created history by taking Chandrayaan-3 to the south pole of the Moon in 2023. Due to its heavy weight, the public and media named it ‘Bahubali Rocket’, inspired by the popular film ‘Bahubali’.
