“It is a collective failure and I don’t want to blame batters or bowlers”: Rohit Sharma opines on Test series defeat against New Zealand

New Zealand defeated India by 113 runs in the second Test in Pune and clinched the series 2-0 with one more game left. India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma was disappointed with the way his team responded to challenging situations.

India suffered two batting collapses in the lastest contest, with Mitchell Santner taking 13 wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the only India batter, who scored a fifty-plus score in the game. The southpaw amassed 72 runs in the second innings but the regular fall of wickets ended India’s hope of winning the Test.

“Disappointed. We didn’t bat well. I know it is important to take 20 wickets but you also need runs from the batters to give something to the bowlers. We failed to respond to challenges thrown at us by New Zealand and credit to them for playing better than us,” Rohit Sharma told Murali Kartik in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Rohit refused to talk about the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. “We still have one more game left in the series. We want to win in Mumbai and my focus is on that game. It was a collective failure in Pune and I don’t want to blame batters or bowlers,” he added.

New Zealand won the opening Test by 8 in Bengaluru. The visitors were without Kane Williamson.
