“It means the whole world to me”: Sanju Samson reacts to his match-winning knock against the West Indies

Sanju Samson was named the Player of the Match for scoring an unbeaten 97 runs against West Indies in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. In a must-win game, the Men in Blue secured a 5-wicket win to qualify for the semifinals of the global tournament. The defending champions will compete against England on March 5.

Chasing 196, India were kept in the game by Samson, who faced 50 deliveries. He hit 12 boundaries and 4 sixes in his impressive knock.

“It means the whole world to me. I was waiting for a knock like this since I started dreaming and playing for India. My journey has been full of ups and down. I kept doubting myself but I am thankful to all almighty for blessing me,” he said.

He spoke about his approach during his innings. “I have been playing this format for a long time and learned a lot from Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and MS Dhoni. I know how the greats play and how they change their game according to the situations,” he added.

“I was hitting from ball one in the previous game as we were batting first, but it was different in this game. Every time I went for shots, we lost wickets. I didn’t think I would play this knock but this is one of the greatest days of my life. I stayed in the present and played the ball on merit,” he concluded.
