Tamil actor Dhanush and director Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth have officially divorced after 20 years of marriage. The Chennai Family Welfare Court granted the divorce after both parties agreed that reconciliation was no longer possible. An old statement from Dhanush has resurfaced, where he revealed that he and Aishwaryaa never dated before their marriage, and their connection began due to rumours linking them. Dhanush denies dating ex-wife Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth after 18 years of marriage

On November 1, 2004, Dhanush held a press conference to announce his marriage. At the time, Rediff reported that he strongly denied rumours of it being a love marriage. He explained that he knew Aishwaryaa only as his elder sister’s friend. However, the media began linking the two, prompting both families to come together to address the rumors. During their discussions, they began to consider, “What’s wrong with the idea of marriage?”

Dhanush thanked the media for playing a role in his marriage to Aishwaryaa while repeating that it wasn’t a love marriage. “So, I have to thank the media for my marriage with Aishwarya. I reiterate that ours is not a love marriage,” He also addressed the age difference between them, with Aishwaryaa being two years older, saying that it didn’t affect him in any way. “The age factor does not affect me at all.”

18 years later, Aishwaryaa and Dhanush announced their separation. On January 17, 2022, they released a joint statement saying: “18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been one of growth, understanding, adjustment, and adaptation. Today, we stand at a place where our paths separate.” It is worth noting that South superstar, Rajinikanth didn’t make any public statement.
