Rishabh Pant's retention for IPL 2025 has taken a very important turn. Recently the left-handed wicketkeeper batsman has confirmed that he did not leave Delhi Capitals due to disagreements with the franchise regarding his retention fee. He posted on X,
“I can definitely say that my retention was not due to money.”
Pant's reaction comes after India batting great Sunil Gavaskar suggested that the wicketkeeper batsman has left the franchise due to disagreements over his retention fee. The dynamics of the auction are always different, sometimes players want more than the previous retention fee and this can create some conflict between the franchise and the player. Pant was allowed to leave Delhi Capitals, ending his 9-year association with the franchise.
The IPL 2025 auction will be held on 24th and 25th November in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Pant will be in highest demand during the IPL 2025 auction. Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Vishwanathan has also shown interest in Pant and said that they would like to add Pant to their side, but after retaining the players and the budget allotted to them, it seems that they do not have enough money for it.
So will Pant be seen in yellow jersey in this IPL?
In an interview given to Provoke TV, former player Ambati Rayudu neither denied nor accepted it. It is expected that all 10 franchises will be behind Pant. However, the purse balance of the franchises suggests that he could join either Lucknow Super Giants, Punjab Kings or Royal Challengers Bangalore. Even the possibility of a return to DC can't be ruled out just yet.
