Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has said that Italy has imposed the toughest sanctions among its allies on arms exports to Israel.
“Following the start of the Israeli campaign in the Gaza Strip, the government immediately suspended the procedures for issuing all new licenses for the export of military material to Israel,” Ms Meloni said in parliament on Tuesday. Thus all contracts signed after 07 October 2023 were not executed. At the same time, all export licenses issued before 07 October 2023 were analyzed on a case-by-case basis.
Italy's position of imposing a complete ban on all new export licenses is much stricter than France, Germany and Britain, he said.
Ms Meloni said Italy was evaluating licenses issued before 07 October 2023.
