Shock to Motorola, ITC took action on violation of 5G patent, may be banned in this country

Obnews Tech Desk: Leading smartphone company Motorola may face a big shock. The US International Trade Commission (ITC) recently ruled that Lenovo's Motorola Mobility infringed Swedish company Ericsson's 5G wireless technology patent. However, this is not the final decision. If this decision is upheld, there could be a ban on the import of Motorola smartphones into the US.

Ericsson's allegations against Motorola

Ericsson had filed a complaint with the ITC alleging that Motorola had used its 5G technology without permission. ITC has given its decision in favor of Ericsson on this. If this decision is implemented, Motorola phones like Moto G, Edge, and Razr may be banned in the US. Additionally, heavy fines can also be imposed on the company. The final decision on this dispute is likely to come in April.

Lenovo rejected the allegations

Lenovo has vehemently rejected Ericsson's allegations. The company says that it is following patent rules. The dispute over patents between the two companies is not limited to the US, but litigation is also going on between them in South America, Britain, and North Carolina.

Motorola's position in the US market

If the sale of Motorola smartphones is banned in America, it will be a big blow to the company. According to a Counterpoint Research report, Motorola had a 14% share of the US market in the third quarter of 2024. The company had registered a 21% increase in its stake this year.
