ITR Refund 2025: Refund money not received yet? Have you made these 3 mistakes?
News India Live, Digital Desk: We all know that after filing the Income Tax Return (ITR), the greatest relief is felt when that ‘ding’ message comes on the mobile “Your Refund has been credited…” (Your refund has been credited). Especially in 2025, when we had filed our tax returns on time, waiting for the money to come back seems very burdensome. If you have also filed ITR, but even after months have passed, the money has not come to your bank account, then there is no need to panic. Many times the matter gets stuck due to minor technical problems or one of our mistakes. Let us understand today in simple language how you can check your refund status and if the money is stuck then what needs to be done to get it out. Where is the money stuck? (Check status like this) You do not need to visit any CA for this. You can check the status from your mobile sitting at home. There are two easy ways: Method 1: From the Income Tax Portal (Easiest) First of all, go to the Income Tax e-filing website (incometax.gov.in). Log in by entering your PAN number and password. As soon as the dashboard opens, you will see the ‘e-File’ option, go there and select ‘Income Tax Returns’. Now click on ‘View Filed Returns’. Here you will get the complete log of your filing. Will get it. If the status is showing “Refund Issued”, then understand that the money is on the way. But if it says “Processed with Demand” or something else, then the matter is wrong. Method 2: From NSDL website (without login) If you do not remember the password, you can also go to the TIN-NSDL website and just enter your PAN number and assessment year to see whether the refund has been sent to the bank or not. Why is the refund not coming? (These are 3 big reasons) If after checking the status it is found that the process has been done but the money has not been received, then consider the reasons given below: Bank account not being ‘validated’: The government now sends money only to those accounts which are pre-validated. Many times due to bank merger (like Syndicate Bank becoming Canara Bank) the IFSC code changes and we forget to update it. Check once whether the bank account is showing ‘Validated’ in your profile or not. E-Verification problem: Many people forget to fill the return and stop verifying it. Remember, unless you verify your ITR with Aadhaar OTP, the department will not process it. Refund is a distant thing. Mistake in name: If the spelling of the name in your PAN card and the name in the bank account is different, then the system stops the refund. What to do if the refund fails? Suppose the status is showing “Refund Failed”, then you will have to submit the request again (Refund Re-issue Request). Log in to the portal. Go to the ‘Services’ tab. Click on ‘Refund Re-issue’ there. Select your correct bank account and submit. You will have the money in just a few days. A little patience and a little understanding. So friends, if there is a delay in the refund, then do not panic. First check whether you have received any email (Intimation Letter) from the Income Tax Department? Sometimes they deduct the refund if there is an old outstanding balance. Keep your bank account in order and keep checking your emails. You will definitely get your rightful money!
