It’s going to be a big summer for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, ’David Warner gives a massive advice to Virat Kohli and Rohit
The leading batsmen of the Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have found themselves in the epicenter of all the upset provocations post the monumental Test series defeat against New Zealand. Both the players proved to be below par as the country experienced a clean sweep in the three-match Test series played on home soil. With India set to play the Test cricket series with Australia as their next nation to confront, a lot of anxieties have been posed regarding the standing of the pair in the game, with even Sunil Gavaskar’s remarks stating that the five Tests might determine the verdict on the two. Meanwhile, Australian cricketer and David Warner has a very audacious stand on the two, maintaining that they ‘who cares about the age’ but cautioned that Virat and Rohit need to perform if India is to win the series.
“Manipulating the crease is what they are coming a bit wider and angling it in; this brings those slip cordons into play. I think time and again we have had some success in India and in Australia. But those two there hold the key to how India are going to go. Young opening batter Jaiswal as well… he’s a talent.”
“First time here; he likes to play the drive on the up so that will bring out the slips into play as well, but those two guys… Yes, age is just a number; they are at the backend. It’s the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Their attitude if it’s on, they are two guys who are difficult to stop. It’s going to be a big summer for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma,’ Warner for Fox Sports.
Virat and Rohit culminating what so ever can be described as calamity stricken home Test season subconsciously before the ever building robust anticipation Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia to be played outside the home country from November 22 ownwards
During the third and last Test against New Zealand, Virat and Rohit faced yet another disappointing outing. In a target chase of 147 runs, Rohit managed to score only 11 runs before being caught by Glenn Phillips off the bowling of Matt Henry. Conversely, Virat struggled even more as he scored just a single run in four deliveries of Ajaz Patel. He who had issues with spin once again fell to this naivety as he fished an easy catch to Daryl Mitchell at slips.
These dismissals marked the end of a rather disappointing home season for Virat and Rohit — that included series against Bangladesh and Kiwis. It does not bode well for the team, ahead of the BGT series which is expected to attract a lot of prominence. In order to achieve their objective of qualifying for the third consecutive ICC World Test Championship final to be played at Lord’s next year, the series has to be won handsomely.
In these five Tests, Rohit has played 10 innings with a single fifty to his credit, amassing 133 runs at a paltry average of 13.30. His highest score is 52. This home season, his scores have been: 6, 5, 23, 8, 2, 52, 0, 8, 18 and 11.
This year, he has played 11 Tests and 21 innings and made 588 runs in those at a mediocre average of 29.40 with two hundreds two fifties and the highest score of 131 in those years. This average in Tests is the lowest for him in a calendar year since he got promoted to the opening slot in the year 2019.
Curiously enough, this has been his best year yet in T20 cricket in the year under review with his average (36.13) and strike rate (154.66) being the best he has recorded for a year.
