ITV confirms return date after cancelling Coronation Street and Emmerdale episodes

Fans of Coronation Street and Emmerdale were left disappointed on Friday after both soaps were suddenly pulled from ITV’s evening schedule.

The long-running dramas which usually air as part of the channel’s weekday “soap hour” did not broadcast on March 27 due to live football coverage.

ITV instead aired England’s international friendly against Uruguay at Wembley Stadium with coverage starting at 7pm ahead of kick-off.

The schedule change meant both soaps were dropped from their usual 8pm to 9pm slots leaving viewers without their regular episodes.

The match is part of England’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and its prime-time scheduling forced the disruption.

This is not the first time fans have had to deal with changes this month.

Earlier in March episodes were also moved due to sporting events prompting frustration from viewers online.

Some complained the interruptions are becoming too frequent while others suggested episodes should still be made available on streaming platforms.

To make up for the disruption ITV has confirmed that both shows will return on Sunday, March 29 with additional episodes scheduled.

This means fans will still get the usual number of episodes for the week just not at their regular times.

Storylines currently unfolding in both soaps remain a major talking point.

In Coronation Street attention is on the ongoing storyline involving Mal Roper while in Emmerdale tensions continue to build around Kim Tate’s decision over the future of Home Farm. Both shows are expected to resume their normal schedule after the weekend.
