Ja Morant’s future won’t be with the Kings or the T’Wolves: “Contractual reasons”

Ja Morant’s future in Memphis is increasingly uncertain. The Grizzlies have officially opened the door to trade offers for their star, fueling rumors of a possible separation that just months ago seemed unthinkable.

However, interest on the market is lacking: when details are examined, several potential buyers start to step back.

According to insider Jake Fischertwo franchises previously linked to Morant – the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Sacramento Kings – are not seriously considering entering the deal.

Minneseta Timberwolves: no push for Morant

Minnesota has long been looking for a high-level player to strengthen the backcourt alongside Anthony Edwardsbut Morant does not appear to fit the management’s concrete plans.

Fischer explains the reason:

Minnesota continues to explore options to improve backcourt depth, but is focusing on mid-level salary profiles. The Wolves are not expected to compete for Ja Morant

Jake Fischer

The main issue is contractual. The long-term financial commitment required by Morant does not align with the Timberwolves’ strategywhich is more focused on targeted, sustainable moves rather than a massive investment in a single superstar.

Sacramento Kings: culture and flexibility first

Sacramento also has a clear need at point guard, but Morant’s name does not convince the new management. General Manager Scott Perry has repeatedly emphasized the importance of the so-called “organizational pillars”: discipline, responsibility, and professionalism.

According to Fischer, these principles weigh heavily in evaluating any potential deal:

The Kings have indicated they are reluctant to take on long-term contracts in in-season trades

Jake Fischer

This is a decisive obstacle not only for Morant but also for other market possibilities linked to Sacramento. Combined, these factors drastically reduce the chances of seeing the Grizzlies’ point guard in California.

Complicated market for Memphis

At the moment, the situation isn’t simple for Memphis either. Finding a team willing to offer significant assets while also accepting Morant’s contract and profile is far from guaranteed.

At least one franchise appears ready to act decisively, but the Grizzlies do not seem in a hurry. The impression is that management may postpone any decision until the offseason, when the market will be more fluid and the chances of structuring a trade will increase.

For now, Ja Morant remains at the center of rumorsbut without a real bidding war. For Memphis, this could be a sign that the right moment for a trade has not yet arrived.
