Jagannath Temple Cyclone 'Dana': Efforts continue to reduce the impact of Cyclone 'Dana' on Jagannath Temple, ban on darshan of devotees

Jagannath Temple Cyclone ‘Dana’ : In view of Cyclone Dana moving towards the Odisha coast, officials on Thursday advised devotees not to visit Jagannath Temple at Puri. The administration intensified preparations to minimize the impact of the disaster on this 12th century temple. Puri District Magistrate Siddharth S Swain said that devotees observing Kartik Vrat for a month and other pilgrims should avoid visiting the temple due to security reasons.

The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) said in a statement that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of the temple while continuing with daily rituals. India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that when storm 'Dana' reaches the coastal area in the early hours of Friday, winds can blow at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour in Puri district. There is also a possibility of heavy rain in the district.

Konark Sun Temple closed for two days
Apart from the Shri Jagannath Temple, the district administration and ASI have also taken steps for the safety of tourists visiting the 13th century Sun Temple in Konark. The ASI has closed the Konark temple for two days, while the district police has barred all tourists from visiting the beaches.
