Oklahoma City Thunder forward Jalen Williams will be sidelined for at least the next three games in the first-round series against the Phoenix Suns after suffering a Grade 1 strain in his left hamstring, the team announced Thursday.
He will be evaluated on a weekly basis. The injury occurred late in the third quarter of Wednesday’s Game 2 win.
After missing a fast-break layup, Williams grabbed his left leg, committed a foul to stop play, and headed straight to the locker room.
He did not speak to reporters before leaving Paycom Center.
He has already been ruled out for Game 3 on Saturday, Game 4 on Monday, and a potential Game 5 next Wednesday.
The timing is a tough blow despite Oklahoma City’s strong position in the series, as Williams had been one of the team’s top performers early in the postseason.
Williams has played 4 seasons for the Thunder. He has averaged 18.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 248 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 1 All-Star game, and has won 1 NBA championship.
