Due to which at least 12 passengers were crushed to death in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra on Wednesday. According to railway officials, trains run at a speed of more than 100 km per hour on this section which comes under the trunk route of the Railways.
Giving information, the officials said that the drivers of both the trains had followed the protocol. Also he tried his best to avoid the accident. A senior Central Railway official said that the driver of Pushpak Express had switched on flasher lights at the spot as per rules. He told that the driver of Karnataka Express had applied brakes after seeing the flasher light signal of Pushpak Express. But due to the curvature of the track, visibility and braking distance of Karnataka Express was affected.
Let us tell you that the number of dead in the accident has not been officially disclosed by the Railways, but Special Inspector General of Police Dattatreya Karale said that 12 bodies have been sent to the Civil Hospital from the spot while six to seven people are injured. The condition of any of the injured is not serious and they are being treated at a nearby hospital.
Most of the dead are said to be from Uttar Pradesh. Maharashtra government has announced an assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased. The state government will also bear the entire cost of treatment of the injured. Swanil Nila, chief spokesperson of Central Railway, said, the accident took place between Maheji and Pardhade stations, about 400 km from Mumbai. Around 5 pm, Pushpak Express was suddenly stopped by someone by pulling the chain due to rumor of fire. After this, some passengers got down from the train and during this time, Karnataka Express coming from Bangalore to Delhi on the other track crushed these passengers.
A senior railway official said, our initial information is that the rumor of sudden fire spread after sparks and smoke spread in one of the general bogies, whereas this usually happens due to heating of axle or jamming of brakes. Due to this, panic spread among the passengers. They stopped the train by pulling the chain and many passengers jumped down from the bogie. At the same time, Karnataka Express arrived on the adjacent track.

State Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, the entire district administration has been asked to work in coordination with the railway authorities. He said that the state government would provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who died in the unfortunate accident in Jalgaon district, and the state government would also bear the entire expense of the injured.
