This legendary player wanted to play IPL at the age of 42 but remained unsold, fans' hearts broken
IPL 2025: The IPL 2025 auction is over and all the teams are ready for the 18th season. This time 182 players were sold, but there were some big names who were not bought by any team. The biggest name among them was that of England's legendary fast bowler James Anderson. Anderson participated in the IPL auction for the first time, but no team showed interest in him.
42 year old James Anderson wanted to play IPL
42 year old James Anderson is the fast bowler taking the most wickets in Test cricket. He had kept a base price of Rs 1.25 crore to play in IPL. Anderson had said in a conversation with BBC Radio that he has a great desire to play in the IPL. He had said, “I still have passion for cricket and I want to play in the IPL.”
The veteran did not find any buyer in the auction
No team showed interest in buying him in the auction. A big reason for this could be that Anderson has not played any T20 match for the last 10 years. He has been playing only Test cricket for the last several years. He played his last Test match against West Indies in July 2024 and after that he retired from international cricket.
Anderson's career
Anderson has performed brilliantly in his career. He has 704 wickets in his name in Test cricket. He has taken 269 wickets in ODIs. Apart from this, he has 1126 wickets in his name in first class cricket. Overall, Anderson has taken more than 1500 wickets. Despite such an excellent record, no one bought him in IPL, due to which his fans were quite disappointed.
Fans' hopes dashed
It is surprising that an experienced player like James Anderson has been ignored in the IPL. Fans were hopeful that some team would definitely buy him, but it did not happen. Perhaps the teams were worried about his long distance from T20 cricket. Despite this, Anderson's passion for cricket and desire to play in the IPL is an inspiration for many players.
