James Cameron Defends 1 of 2025’s Most Controversial Movies
James Cameron is showing his support for one of 2025’s most controversial movies.
Cameron is known for directing a number of beloved blockbusters, including 1984’s The Terminator, 1986’s Aliens, 1989’s The Abyss, 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day, 1994’s True Lies, 1997’s Titanic, 2009’s Avatar, and 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water. His most recent movie is another Avatar sequel, titled Avatar: Fire and Ash, and is currently playing in United States theaters.
What controversial 2025 movie is James Cameron defending?
Speaking with The Hollywood ReporterCameron came to the defense of A House of Dynamite.
A House of Dynamite is directed by Kathryn Bigelow, who Cameron was previously married to. With an ensemble cast that includes Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Tracy Letts, Jared Harris, Gabriel Basso, and more, the movie shows how the United States government would react to a ballistic missile being launched at the city of Chicago. The ending of the movie proved to be especially controversial, while some people who had real-life training on the subject matter also had some criticisms.
Cameron said he “utterly” defends the last act of A House of Dynamite as he feels it’s the “only possible ending.”
He continued, “But that’s not even really the point. The point is: From the moment the scenario began at minute zero when the missile was launched and detected, the outcome already sucked. There was no good outcome, and the movie spent two hours showing you there is no good outcome. We cannot countenance these weapons existing at all. And it all boils down to one guy in the American system, the president, who is the only person allowed to launch a nuclear strike, either offensively or defensively, and the lives of every person on the planet revolve around that one person. That’s the world we live in, and we need to remember that when we vote next time.”
“So the end of that movie was the only way that movie could have ended because — as the computer says at the end of War Games — ‘the only way to win is not to play.’
A House of Dynamite is now streaming on Netflix.
