James Foster Appointed as CSK Head Coach Ahead of IPL 2026 Season
The former wk-batter James Foster has been appointed as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the IPL 2026 season.
The five-time champions are aiming to bounce back after a disappointing 2025 campaign. CSK are aiming to strengthen their standards ahead of the 19th edition of the tournament.
James Foster will be joining Stephen Fleming’s group as a specialist fielding coach, as CSK attempts to bounce back from a season where they claimed only four wins out of 14 games and finished at the bottom of the points table for the first time.
Speaking on James Foster’s joining, CEO Kasi Viswanathan said, “We have been looking for a fielding coach. I am hopeful he will join us.”
Foster has previous coaching experience with Desert Vipers, Northern Superchargers, and Peshawar Zalmi.
Stephen Fleming’s support staff includes Mike Hussey (batting coach), Erin Simons (bowling coach), Sridharan Sriram (assistant bowling coach), and Rajiv Kumar (Fielding coach), while Russell Radhakrishnan serves as the team manager.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have begun their pre-season camp for the Indian players, with most of the players from the CSK 2026 squad, including MS Dhoni.
Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube, who are currently part of the Indian squad in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, will be joining later. Shreyas Gopal, who finished his Ranji Trophy assignment, will be joining later.
CSK had pulled off a blockbuster trade, exchanging Sanju Samson for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. Sanju Samson has been in red-hot form, smashing 97* runs off 50 deliveries in the Super 8s game against West Indies and helping India to qualify for the Semifinals.
Meanwhile, CSK has signed younsters Prashant Veer and Karthik Sharma, and with a packed set of youngsters and experienced players led by skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK will be aiming for their sixth title.
Despite the IPL 2026 schedule being yet to be unveiled, the reports suggest that the 19th edition of the league is likely to begin on March 28.
According to reports, the schedule release is delayed due to the overlapping of elections in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Assam. The IPL governing council is planning to release them in two phases, and the first part of the schedule is expected to be revealed this week.
