Jammu and Kashmir: Khelo India Winter Games inaugurated in Gulmarg

Gulmarg, 23 February. The sixth edition of Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG) started from Monday at Gulmarg Ski Resort located in the snowy region of North Kashmir. For this, hundreds of athletes, officials and tourists from across the country will camp. Jammu and Kashmir Sports Minister Satish Sharma, speaking at the inauguration of the Khelo India Winter Games, said the region will strongly combat terrorism and also continue to promote tourism and sports as key drivers of development.

Satish Sharma said that this event shows the resilience and confidence of Jammu and Kashmir amidst challenges. Referring to the recent Pahalgam incident, the Minister said such acts will not derail efforts to promote peace, tourism and youth participation through sports.

He said, ‘We are strong enough to face the challenges. Tourism will flourish and sports will bring positive change. Terming it an honor to host the sixth edition of the Games, Sharma said Gulmarg has emerged as a major winter sports centre, attracting athletes and visitors from across the country. He further said that winter adventure tourism is also being expanded to destinations like Sonamarg, Bhaderwah and Pir Panjal region.
