With the arrival of monsoon across the country, the havoc of nature is being seen in the hilly and plain areas. Meanwhile, a very surprising incident of cloud burst has come to light from Thathri area of Doda district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Thathri’s Main Market and the famous Jamia Masjid have been seriously affected due to the flood and debris caused by the sudden cloudburst. It is a matter of relief that no person has lost his life in this sudden disaster, but there has been huge damage to the infrastructure. Many residential houses and vehicles have been damaged due to flood water and debris.
Heavy debris came with the flood, National Highway-244 had to be closed
According to reports, torrential rains in the upper hilly areas of Doda led to a flash flood like situation. After this, huge amount of mud, big stones and debris flowed from the mountains and entered Thathri city and residential settlements below. Many cars and two-wheelers parked on the way were buried under the debris. Due to this natural disaster, the administration had to immediately close the Batote-Doda-Kishtwar National Highway (NH-244) as a precautionary measure. Due to complete stoppage of traffic on the highway, long queues of vehicles have formed on both sides of the road.
Rescue and restoration work started on war footing, advisory issued
As soon as information about the incident was received, the district administration, local police and disaster management teams immediately reached the affected areas and started rescue and restoration operations. Huge earth-moving machines (JCB) have been pressed into service to clear debris and stones from the national highway and restore road connectivity. Doda district administration has issued a strict advisory for common citizens and tourists. Officials have said that until this sensitive route is declared completely clean and safe, people should postpone their non-essential journeys on this route. At present the officials are busy in making an accurate assessment of the loss.
Warning of “cloud burst” like rain in Maharashtra’s Nashik, high alert
Monsoon is taking a severe form in North India as well as in Western India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major warning of “cloudburst-like” extremely heavy rainfall in Trimbakeshwar, Igatpuri and adjoining western parts of Nashik district of Maharashtra. After this serious alert, Nashik district administration has become fully prepared and high alert has been declared in the area. In view of security, strict orders have been given to keep all schools, colleges and weekly markets, including big and famous religious places like Trimbakeshwar and Saptashringi temples, temporarily closed.

The Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that heavy to very heavy rains will continue in the eastern state of Odisha today. In view of the high waves in the sea and bad weather, fishermen have been given strict instructions not to go into deep water. On the other hand, two completely different colors of weather are being seen in the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. While on one hand the rivers are in spate due to torrential rains in the eastern districts of the state, on the other hand people in the capital Itanagar and its surrounding areas are suffering from extreme humidity and scorching heat.
