Jan Nayakan controversy: Why is Thalapathy Vijay’s final film stuck? full story
New Delhi. South’s superstar actor Thalapathy Vijay’s last film ‘Jana Nayakan’ is continuously in the headlines these days. The film was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on 18 December 2025 and was scheduled to release on 9 January. But its release was postponed due to delay in censor certificate. The Censor Board has raised objections to some scenes and dialogues of the film. The Board believes that there are some political comments in the film which can create controversy. For this reason there was a delay in getting the certificate of the film. But it is not just that.
Accusation of hurting religious sentiments
A complaint claimed that the film hurts religious sentiments. The matter has now reached the Supreme Court and fans are eagerly waiting for the last film of their favorite actor. Producer Venkat K Narayan said that on December 22, the Censor Board had sent an email that after some minor changes, the film would be given U/A 16+ certificate. The makers made the suggested changes and resubmitted the film, but still did not receive the certificate on time.
High Court ordered to give certificate
Later it was revealed that a member of the Censor Board had sent a complaint to the chairperson, after which the film was sent to the revising committee. Madras High Court had earlier ordered to give the certificate to the film immediately, but then the Division Bench stayed it. Vijay has recently started his political party ‘Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’ and ‘Jana Nayakan’ is his last film before entering politics. If gossips are to be believed, the delay was caused by the Censor Board due to political reasons.
Fans angry over repeated delay in release
Vijay’s fans are very angry due to repeated postponement of the release date of the film. Fans have also protested at many places in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Recently, due to the controversy, many pre-planned events (like bike rallies and DJ events) had to be cancelled. This political action thriller directed by H Vinoth tells the story of a common man who struggles to bring change in society and politics. The film stars actors like Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamita Baiju and Prakash Raj along with Vijay.
The matter reached the Supreme Court, what did CBFC say?
Now the matter has reached the Supreme Court. KVN Productions has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the stay order of Madras High Court. CBFC has also told the Supreme Court that they should also be heard before giving any decision. The Supreme Court has now fixed the next hearing of the case for January 21. The producer has released the video and apologized to the fans and said that the matter is in the court, so they cannot tell everything.
