Jana Nayagan release remains uncertain amid censor delay

Chennai: The release of actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan continues to remain uncertain as the project awaits certification clearance, despite recent updates appearing on online ticket booking platforms.

The development comes shortly after Vijay assumed office as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister earlier this month. While he has begun his political journey, his final film project has remained stalled for nearly five months because of delays in the certification process.

Ticketing platforms show updated release dates

Recent updates on ticket booking platforms have sparked discussions among fans regarding the film’s possible release timeline.

According to listings visible on some platforms, the film appears to have been updated for a June release window, with one platform displaying June 19 as the release date.

However, there has been no official confirmation from the film’s production house regarding the schedule.

The absence of a formal announcement has left uncertainty around whether the dates shown online are provisional or merely placeholders.

Producer says team waiting for censor certificate

Producer Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions recently addressed media queries regarding the project.

According to reports, he said the team was still awaiting certification clearance and that an official release date would be announced only after the certificate is received.

He further stated that the film would be released on a large scale worldwide once the process is completed.

The producer refrained from discussing further details, saying that the focus currently remained on obtaining the required certification.

Certification process reportedly faced multiple hurdles

The film, directed by H Vinoth, had originally been scheduled for theatrical release on January 9.

Reports indicate that the project was screened before the certification committee in December 2025.

The committee reportedly suggested certain modifications and recommended cuts before considering the film for a U/A certificate.

The makers are understood to have accepted the recommendations and resubmitted the film.

However, the process was reportedly delayed further after objections concerning some scenes led to the project being referred to a revising committee.

The prolonged process is also reported to have impacted distribution plans and international scheduling.

Online leak added to challenges

During the delay period, the project faced another setback after several scenes and reportedly high-definition copies surfaced online through piracy platforms.

The leak triggered concern within the Tamil film industry and raised questions over content security and unauthorised circulation.

Reports stated that police arrested nine people in connection with the alleged leak case.

The film also features Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol in key roles.

Until certification is completed and an official announcement is made, the release of Jana Nayagan remains uncertain despite growing speculation among fans.
