Horrific road accident in Janakpuri, 6 year old girl died; car driver arrested
Delhi Hit and Run Case: An innocent 6-year-old girl lost her life in a tragic road accident on Tuesday morning in Janakpuri area of the capital Delhi. After the accident, a wave of mourning ran in the area. The police have registered an FIR in the case and arrested the accused driver. According to the police, a PCR call was received from Mata Chanan Devi Hospital on the morning of 17 February 2026. It was told in the call that a girl and her grandmother injured in a road accident have been brought to the hospital. The injured woman has been identified as 57-year-old Mercy Xavier, a resident of Lajwanti Garden area.
How did the accident happen?
According to the information, at around 7:40 in the morning, Mercy Xavier was going somewhere in an e-rickshaw with her granddaughter. When his e-rickshaw reached near Janakpuri fire station, a speeding car hit him. The collision was so strong that the e-rickshaw overturned and both its occupants were seriously injured.
The innocent could not be saved
After the accident, both of them were immediately admitted to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital. Seeing the critical condition of the girl, she was later referred to Max Hospital Dwarka. However, despite all the efforts of the doctors, the girl could not be saved and she was declared dead. The post-mortem of the girl has been done at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
Driver arrested
Taking immediate action, the police seized the car involved in the accident. During investigation, car driver Sanjeev, resident VPO Majra Dabas, was arrested on 18 February. Legal action is being taken against the accused. Police say that the investigation of the case is ongoing and action will be taken keeping in mind all aspects of the accident.
